I recently had the pleasure of attending a wedding reception with a unique theme – A Mexican fiesta.
A simple barn space was turned in a colourful and fun one, with the use of simple, colourful and theme specific decorations.
My favourite things about the decorations included:
1. Using decorations as guest favours
Such a clever idea as it means that favours double as decorations for the event but also save costs as people get to take one home as a favour.
In this instance mini cacti plants doubled as beautiful table arrangements and were labelled with a tag with a guests name on, for them to take home as a lovely memory.
2. Hanging bunting from beams
Beams are perfect for hanging bunting – in this case Mexican themed bunting. By following the natural lines of the beams across an event space, it naturally draws the eye down through the space creating a feeling of openess and seemingly adding length to a room.
Using beams also protects the paint on the walls and venues will thank you for that!
3. Use of themed balloons
I loved the use of balloons at the wedding, especially the themed balloons paired with the simple coloured balloons. The themed balloons included Mexican hats, piñatas and red peppers and complemented the theme of the event.
Top tip – Remember when choosing ballon arrangements to consider their height. Consider having shorter ballon table centrepieces so that they sit lower than the other decorations such as bunting, so they don’t become hidden.
Moveable and useable decorations
The use of sombreros at the wedding party was such a great idea. Not only were they fantastic decorations when hung on chairs or placed on tables, but they also were a great talking point and photo prop for guests, and overall added a fun element to the party.
When choosing your theme ensure that it will offer the look and feel that you want. With some well placed and thought out decorations, options you can create a perfect themed event which really conveys your message and that all guests enjoy.
