Eco-Friendly Events

You may have seen our Facebook post dedicated to Plastic Free July. This weeks blog expands on this topic with some of our best tips to throwing a sustainable, plastic free event!

Evites

Set the tone of your event by skipping the physical invitation. With technology part of everyday life, it makes sense to use it as part of our events!

One of our favourites is the software Canva where you can create your own beautiful invitations and then email them to all your friends! Another option is to use Paperless Post which allows guests to RSVP online, helping you keep track of your RSVP list.

Avoid disposable plates and cutlery

For a reception think canapés with toothpicks straight off wooden platters or for an afternoon tea ask to borrow cups, saucers, glasses and plates from friends resulting in a beautiful mismatched tea party!

For children’s birthday parties consider investing in a set of reusable party plates! I recently did this for my sons birthday. I bought 30 plates and 30 cups and put a washing up bowl next to a bin saying “for cups and plates” making sure people didn’t throw them away! Then a quick wash of the plates before serving the cake and done! And I have them for all future parties to come.

If you can’t get away from disposables then consider some of the more eco friendly options like bamboo plates.

Sustainable party bags and goodies

For weddings I love the idea of giving all guests a small seedling that they can plant and as it grows they can remember your wedding.

When purchasing gift bags consider avoiding the typical plastic party bags and use paper bags instead.

Or skip the party bag altogether and hand out colouring books to kids as they leave or similar.

Be straw free!

We promise your guests won’t miss them if you don’t use them.

Balloons

In an ideal world we would say ditch the balloons, but we know that people love balloons. But when planning your decorations consider using more sustainable elements. Bunting and paper pom poms look beautiful for a wedding reception or baby shower, flower arrangements can spruce up any table settings and candles can make any dull area seem ambient.

So have a think about any decorations or elements you could use and incorporate them into your event. We would love to hear any suggestions you have!
