As a kid, growing up in New Zealand, my parents were always having to come up with unique ideas for my birthday party, as my birthday falls right in the middle of the NZ winter. I was always disappointed that I couldn’t do mini golf (tried once and that day it was raining all day so we had to go to an arcade instead), or go to the beach.
Fast forward a few years, and now living in the UAE, my birthday falls right in the middle of Summer, the very hot UAE summer.
For my first couple of years here I thought that the only option was to go to brunch, which to be honest I am not the biggest fan of, however I did it, because that is what everyone else does. However, more recently I realised that no matter what the weather, you can be a lot more creative with birthday parties, or events in general, whether for adults or children.
Last year, I held a private painting class for seven of my friends and I. You don’t need to be an artist to get involved in these classes, you can actually be a complete beginner and still take home a painting that you would be proud to hand on your wall! You can hold these painting classes at your house and organise the catering yourself, or at a selection of restaurants.
Recently we held an Amazing Race, of which the activities can be tailored for no matter what time of year it is. This event requires a whole blog post for itself so stay tuned!
For an upcoming Hawaiian themed birthday party we have organised a dance teacher to teach a group of children the Hula.
